2013 Scholarship Winner Jessica Willick
Cody Buffalo Memorial
Cody grew to be a great young man and an outstanding Team Roper. Growing up he was a member of the CJRA and the NHSRA. As a young adult he was a member of the PRCA and the CPRA. In 2002 Cody won the IFYR championship in Shawnee, and still holds the arena record there. In 2003 he won Doug Kaess Memorial roping, and rode his saddle with pride in memory of the man who was not only his mentor, but a very close friend.
In July of 2007 at the tender age of 23, Cody was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, and started the longest and hardest battle of his life. Cody joined the Team Pink Rodeo Team, and Team Pink family following his diagnoses, and became a strong force in our organization. As an organization that deals with a lot of cancer, Cody came into our lives, and made us stronger and better people, because we knew him. He joined Team Pink with one goal in mind, and that was to give and not receive. Cody showed the Team Pink family what it was to be strong, loving, positive and kind, but most of all he showed us what courage really was. As President of Team Pink, I made Cody a promise that his goal through our family would be to make a difference in the world, no matter how short of time he had. Cody told me "I prayed about this, and God lead me to Team Pink". Cody also shared with me, his wish to help the youth, and future of rodeo through our organization.
Cody lost his battle with cancer on July 15th, 2011. Help Team Pink keep Cody's dream and our promise alive by supporting the Team Pink/Cody Buffalo Memorial Rodeo Scholarship Fund.
The Team Pink/Cody Buffalo Memorial Rodeo Scholarship will be awarded to a senior that is a member of a rodeo organization, and is a contestant of any rodeo event. You must have dealt with some cancer in your background to qualify. However, you do not have to college rodeo to be eligible for this scholarship.
